COMING ATTRACTIONS

ELWCC chef will cook up
up delicious program in August

Fire up and let’s get cooking! The August 19 Palm Harbor Newcomers Club luncheon program will feature a  cooking demonstration by East Lake Woodlands Country Club’s Executive Chef Donato Sassano. Let’s dish!

Chef Sassano will show how to prepare special cold soups for hot summer days.  Additionally, Donato will share his top 10 tips for selecting the best fresh ingredients  to take meals to the next level of taste and healthy eating, and he will  answer audience culinary questions.

Donato brings a rich and varied history to the kitchen. He was raised in an Italian family of restaurateurs  who come from the island of Sardinia. He has great memories of his grandparent’s restaurant and particularly his grandmother’s hand-rolled meatballs. He is the third generation to share his talent for preparing quality dishes, but the first in his family to graduate from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America.

Donato loves cooking for large groups. He finds his greatest challenge s are responding to menu requests from his four sisters and, given the hectic, long hours of his profession, finding time to spend with his wife and children.

Donato was the winner of the 2004 Sarasota Chefs Competition and the 2005 Florida Iron Chef competition. He was the executive chef of DJ’s restaurant in Sarasota, and has worked with a dozen country clubs during his years with Club Corp. of America.

The luncheon and meeting will be held at East Lake Woodlands Country Club, 1055 East Lake Parkway, Oldsmar.  Doors open at 10 am with the meeting at 11 am, followed by lunch at 11:30 am and then the program.

What a delicious way to beat the summer’s elevated temperatures. In this case, if you can’t stand the heat, get INTO the kitchen with Donato!
